CHRIS CUTHBERT

Chris Cuthbert is a Canadian born Director of Photography based in Los Angeles who has photographed award-winning films, comedy shorts, documentaries, branded content, and commercials. His most recent project, EDGES, was written and directed by Brandon Constantine and is set to hit the film festival circuit next year.Chris most recently worked with Estevan Oriol - world-renowned street photographer- turned- film director - on a series of mini-documentaries about Latino street culture in Los Angeles. Estevan and Chris share the love of mixing mediums and shot both digital 6K and 16mm film.
Some of Chris’s award-winning projects include Cute House and The Lonely Italian. Cute House director Robb Boardman and producer Jay Patumanoan have tapped Chris on several other Dress-Up Gang projects and have collaborated with Chris on the Frankie Quiñones stand-up special for HBO.
The Lonely Italian was master-minded and directed by Lee Farber and the film is a hilariously satirical mockumentary. The film won best Feature Comedy Film at the San Diego Film Festival and was distributed in the US and EU.
Before Chris was a Director of Photography, he worked his way up from Camera PA to Camera Operator. While working as a Camera PA on Jon Chu’s League of Extraordinary Dancers (the LXD) Chris met Alice Brooks, ASC. They both shared a love for dance, camera, and lighting. So much so that Chris became a personal assistant to Alice for several years until Chris camera operated for Alice on Girl Flu, an indie feature film. They went on to collaborate on Tainted Love (HULU), Dance Camp (YouTube Red), We Love You (YouTube Red), and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands (Amazon).
He joined the Local 600 & Society of Camera Operators before the age of 30, which had been a life-long dream. When Chris joined the SOC he met Peter McCaffrey, Camera Op and Director of Photography. Peter, along with Alice, have been mentoring and guiding him for the past several years

Chris was born in Toronto, Canada and at the age of four moved to the city of Los Gatos in Northern California. Chris attended the University of San Diego and graduated with a major in Communication and a minor in Photography. After college, Chris was accepted to Dodge College Film and Media Arts at Chapman University where he received a MFA in Production with a focus in Cinematography.
